Behind every great executive report is a designer who didn’t sleep. Nights, weekends, last-minute changes from three different people in four different formats. The report always made it out the door — but the process was quietly breaking everyone involved. Something had to change. Turns out, it was never really a design problem.

Client

UKG

Approach

End-to-end report redesign — from format and layout to process restructuring and template system development. Built for scale, designed for consistency.

Tools

Adobe InDesign · Illustrator · Adobe Express

Impact

Reduced monthly report production from multiple days to a single day. Template system later expanded company-wide — giving any designer the ability to produce on-brand documents independently.

[01] READING THE ROOM

The Workforce Activity Report had a problem that had nothing to do with design — it had everything to do with process. The designer was working nights and weekends just to meet a strict monthly deadline. Information was coming from different people, through different channels, with no unified system. The dots weren’t connected. Nobody had stopped to ask why.

[02]  BUILDING THE FIX

The first fix wasn’t visual — it was operational. I streamlined the communications channel, unified how information was delivered to the designer, and restructured the entire content workflow. Then came the redesign. I flipped the format from portrait to landscape — a deliberate choice based on where and how the audience would be reading it. Built in InDesign with a locked template structure, font styles, and graphs imported directly from Illustrator, the report became something any designer could execute without reinventing the wheel every month.

[03] SHIPPED. LOVED. DONE.

What used to take nights and weekends now took one day. The Workforce Activity Report ran on the same template for 3 years. Then the rebrand hit — and the same systems thinking that fixed one report scaled into something bigger. A full suite of collateral templates built as drag-and-drop document components — report covers, stats callouts, product profiles, use cases. One voice. Any designer. Every time. Later translated into Adobe Express so the whole company could produce DIY documents independently. That’s not a redesign. That’s infrastructure.
